What is certain about the future? The following millennia will most definitely be different to our today. The year 4891 is in reference to George Orwell's 1984 where everyone under surveillance—when everything you see, hear, talk about, and think will and shall be known. How the past is different or similar to the future will only be dependent on how one views it. Man or god made disasters, natural selection, the survival of the fittest—the way see all these things will change as time passes and as the world evolves before us. Just as in Juan Alcazaren's work in Phenomena at Artinformal Gallery, we find the letters "ACTG" which stands for "Act of God". Alcazaren, known for his play on words, ultimately uses manufactured materials in creating a nostalgic allusion to creation. Olan Ventura displays a glitched appropriation of Da Vinci's The Last Supper, changing the way we see art under the digital chimera. At Blindspot Gallery, Luke Ching Chin Wai looks back and reflects on how past and present typhoons and how these natural events echo the socio-political landscape both times.
