STPI launches Printmakers’ Assembly 2020, an online showcase complemented with accessible resources and programs set to foster and promote the rich variety of printmaking practices. The sales efforts will also help the participating artists during the pandemic. According to STPI gallery director Rita Targui, the initiative’s hope is to“strongly inspires both independent printmakers to keep persevering with their practice and the wider community to continue supporting artists as we weather this storm together.”
Initially limited to artists based in Southeast Asia, the high demand and spirit for wider participation had the Assembly’s open call take on a global outreach for its inaugural 2020 edition. After a rigorous selection process, the gallery spotlights 65 stellar print works by 25 artists, whose technical competencies, innovation, and diverse treatments highlight the astounding and remarkable in the contemporary field. The likes of Joey Cobcobo, Ilse Noor, Kraisak Chirachaisakul, and more, have their works, statements, and profiles available for view in the e-catalogue and gallery website.
Launched right alongside is STPI’s Resource Center, presently featuring segments on printmaking key techniques and tips on collecting and care. Three more segments—Artist Interviews, Sketchbooks, and Collected Thoughts—will be progressively published for the online event’s duration. The Interviews will delve into the ideas behind the participating artists’ works, Sketchbooks will present sneak peeks into the artists’ processes, while Collected Thoughts will feature essays and poetry from the STPI art community on the exhibited works.
