Hannah Nantes is a visual artist currently based in Antipolo City. She is an alumna of UP Fine Arts and an
Art History scholar at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Her pursuit of art has involved research, writing, and teaching at the tertiary level before her current endeavor as a studio practitioner. She was a mentee of the Linangan Art Residency in 2021 as a recipient of the ArtFair PH grant, and is among the current Artists-in-Residence for Punlaan Art Space (August – November 2022).
Through expressive figurative paintings, prints, and atmospheric assemblages, her imagery tackles the patterns of mundane absurdity, existential anxieties, and internal dissonance. Often, figures are rendered grotesquely as a way of communicating our paradoxical struggles. This use of images is
supplemented by found objects that challenge the passivity of direct representation, engaging the objects’ histories, associations, and presence to negotiate with conflict, both personal and in society.
