"The material world has shaped our history and nature," Irfan Hendrian explains about Some Other Matter, his solo exhibition at Sullivan + Strumpf. "It gives us possibilities of producing anything, thus directly influencing everything in our lives. Our interaction with it every day, through using or implementing it, imbues it with memories, meanings, and values." In this show, Hendrian discusses in installations how technology affects our relationship with paper. Taking inspiration from the dying publishing industry in his hometown, Bandung, we find that the exhibition is proof of paper's significance—its flexibility, resilience, and adaptability.
