“From the sand’s side, all with form are in vain. The only certainty is the fluidity of the sand negating all forms," Abe Kubo narrates in the novel The Woman in the Dunes. Art critic Hanbum Lee notes this at a scan through Seeun Kim's works for the solo exhibition Pitman's Choice. Through the walk around the gallery, Kim takes you places twisted and disrupted yet familiar in a sense. These spaces are that of the artist's memories, only rediscovered through a different lens. Through varied strokes, Kim allows for the audience to build their own realities around the scenes presented. This reconstruction is an echo to what awaits the village from The Woman in the Dunes—a reality based on one's own imagination and understanding of the complexity of truths.
